Originally 82 mourner statues were made in the Middle Ages, some of which have been recovered and are on display in Dijon, France.
The statues are known by the designation: Les Pleurants des tombeaux des ducs de Bourgogne, or The Mourners of Dijon. The name Pleurant means "weeper" in French.
